Real estate agents who are interviewing with brokerages should arm themselves with a set of questions to ask managers. The aim, according to Adorna O. Carroll, CRB, SRS,  RENE,  is to get a feel for the company culture and ensure it supports the way the agent thinks a business should be run.

Carroll, who is vice president and owner/Broker of Realty3 CT, and 2016 president of the Real Estate Business Institute, suggests real estate agents consider asking these questions:

  • Do you provide training?  If so, can you provide me with an overview of what I can expect and/or take advantage of?
  • What costs will I incur?
  • May I see some examples of marketing materials that will be available to me?
  • What is your company’s market share, compared to the top 10 real estate companies in the area?
  • What would you say the average income is per year for full-time agents in this office?
  • Does this office have and support teams, or does each agent operate on their own?
  • What commission level are you prepared to offer me?
  • Are there restricted farming areas?
  • Do you have a company policy manual?  Will I be provided with a copy if I sign on with you?
  • How many full-time agents do you have at the company?
  • Do you have a mentor program?
  • How many listings does the office have?
  • Do you have weekly sales meetings?
  • What are your office goals?
  • Will I be reimbursed for expenses of classes and/or training?
  • What Realtor certifications or designations have you earned?  Do you support this education?
  • What kinds of rewards could I expect if I become a top producer?
  • What technologies does the office have available, and at what cost?
  • May I review a copy of your independent contractor agreement?
  • What is the commission turnaround time from closing to check-in-hand?
